Gospel Art Kit Notebooking Pages - Book of Mormon

I got a little too ambitious when I first started making these pages and was going to add more stories from the BoM. However, I'll be lucky to get them all done from the kit. So, I've got notebooking pages done through Enos right now. As time allows, I'll be adding the rest for the Book of Mormon.

Our Sister Missionary!

Our daughter, Ali, received her mission call last week! She will be serving in the England Leeds Mission and will enter the England MTC on August 5. We also were able to talk to our 'son' Jonathan on Sunday for Mother's Day. He is currently serving in the Belgium Netherlands Mission and is loving every minute of it! When he heard where Ali was going he said "I could take a train over to see you!" Of course, he really can't but it's nice that they will be so close. He was very excited for her... WE ALL ARE!

This photo taken the minute she got her envelope in her hands! She was doing a pretty cute happy dance around her apartment :) It was a really great day because she had just turned in her last final about an hour before this moment! She said she's more afraid of not being in school then serving a mission... she loves school but loves our Lord and wants to serve Him with all her heart!

I was with her when she got her call and of course she wanted to open it with family and friends so we quickly finished packing up her sister's stuff and gathered a few things for her (she's going to stay in Cedar City to hang out with friends for about 6 weeks then come home and spent time with us) and drove 5 hours home to open it that night. I tried uploading the video of her opening it, but I guess it's too big or something. Let's just say her younger sisters were extremely excited and it took me about 2 minutes before I knew where she was actually going. Lots of screaming going on... then lots of tears. It was exciting and special.

Here are a couple Mother's Day photos of Jonathan (Elder Ellis) sent to us by some senior missionaries in is district. He is very much loved, which doesn't surprise us at all. We took him into our home because he is such a wonderful young man and we knew he would be a very positive influence if in the right environment. He has touched many lives both here at home and on his mission. He will return home about 3 months before Ali. However, we also have a son who might overlap with Jonathan a month or two... so we may have out three at a time for a while :)

This photo was taken on a temple day for the missionaries. They are able to attend the temple twice a year. It's a great blessing for him to be able to attend the temple while on his mission.

The Living Christ... MEMORIZED!

Well, we finished memorizing The Living Christ. We actually finished about two weeks ago, but we have been working on perfecting it a little better. There were a few spots that were giving the kids problems. But, we are finished and it was a good experience for them. They've learned not only that they are capable of memorizing a long piece, but they also understand more about their Savior and what his life meant to them individually. My daughter loves that if someone has a question about the Savior she has lots of information about him "stuck in her head" :)

After we finished, they asked what we were going to memorize next! I was a little surprised to hear that from them. Well, I'm still working on that, but I'm leaning towards 1 Corinthians 13. I've always loved that chapter about charity and my older kids memorized this many years ago. I guess I need to start a list of the all the things I'd like them to memorize. I'll add that at a later time though :)

So I guess memorization has become a part of our homeschool again. I'm glad because my older kids did a lot of memorizing, but at some point I dropped the ball on that and my kids really seem to enjoy it.

The Living Christ Update

Well, we're half way there! We're not as far along as I had hoped we'd be at this point, but I still think if we work really hard at it we'll be done by Christmas. Surprisingly, he kids love the time they spend memorizing it. My 11 year old son is impressed with his memorization skills, I can tell. He was pretty overwhelmed by the whole thing at first, but now he feels as though he can do it. Some of the words in the text are a little difficult for him and he doesn't know what they mean, but that just gives us new words to add to his vocabulary.

We do need to work on presentation a little. When my son recites, he's all over the place. But, I'm not that worried about that for now. I plan on adding a video of them reciting it when they're finished. My only problem is my camera won't let me upload video lately! But, I'm sure that can be worked out somehow. Anywoo, the memorization is going great!

Book of Mormon Lapbook - Lesson 1

I thought I'd post the lessons I put together for the BOM lapbook. The lapbook has been at a stand still for a while now, but I'd love to see some of you jump on board and help out if you're interested.

Before you begin lesson 1, you could have your children put together a couple mini-books about the Book of Mormon. The memory cards will be added to their lapbooks throughout the study. You choose the verses your child will use.

The Living Christ Copywork Notebook

My 14 daughter decided she'd like to memorize The Living Christ for her Faith project. We've decided to make it a group effort and my youngest son Christian and I are also going to be working on memorizing it along with her. Our goal is to have it finished by Christmas.

There an article in the September 2010 Ensign called "Bringing Christ into Our Home" about a family who was blessed for memorizing The Living Christ.

Book of Mormon Lapbook

The members of my LDS-HFS Yahoo! Group are creating a Book of Mormon lapbook. We are using the Primary 4 manual as our resource for this project. You can find the mini-books for this project in our group files and will be added to the Sugardoodle website when completed. To take a look at the files or to help with this awesome project, you can join us here. The more the merrier! As of now, we have about 7 lessons completed.

LDS Prophets Notebooking Pages

I put these pages together for my older kids who attend seminary to do a study of each of the prophets. While I was at it I put in a page for my 2nd grader with primary lines . There is a fact sheet for each prophet and several templates to choose from. I also added in a few blank templates for additional pages if wanted.

Just Want to Share!

I've been working on many notebooking pages for the last year or so. I started a Yahoo! group called LDS Homeschool Form Share were I've been uploading pages for other homeschool families to use. Unfortunately, some of my files are too big to add to the file section of Yahoo! groups. This is the reason for this blog. I've added my pages to a file share website and will add links to this blog for others to access the pages. I'm not sure how much time I'll actually have for "blogging" but this is a free way for me to share my pages.

I also own Notebooking Nook, where I sell notebooking pages for homeschool families. This has been quite an experience for me, running my own business, but fun at the same time.

I moderate a couple other Yahoo! groups as well.
